Trailing 3–2 with under six minutes remaining, the Devils ignited in rapid succession — Hamilton struck at 14:32, then Hughes followed 19 seconds later at 14:51 to put New Jersey ahead 4–3 and electrify Prudential Center. Hughes, who also had two assists on the night for a four-point performance, added a 22nd goal into an empty net to seal the 5–3 victory. The pairing of Hamilton and Hughes, scoring with only 19 seconds between them, was the fastest two-goal sequence by Devils teammates since the franchise's comeback wins of earlier seasons.
